5/1/2021 1 Comment Who Is An Eye Doctor? An eye doctor is a person who gives a specialized service related to the visual organs or eyes. This individual is typically known as an ophthalmologist. It is any health care worker involved with eye care, whether it is one having a little bit of formal training to highly trained practitioners with a doctoral degree of vision care. In the United States, there are about fifty ophthalmologists practicing around the country. The ophthalmologists provide different services that include preventive care, clinical support, refractive and ocular surgery, glasses and contact lenses, and optometry as highlighted in this article. Eye doctors also diagnose people with various vision problems, such as myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, presbyopia, and glaucoma. They perform comprehensive tests, including blood tests, vision exams, and the like. If you are a member of the Medicare program, you can have free eye exams at designated nursing facilities or community-based outpatient clinics, regardless of your financial eligibility. If you have any kind of visual field loss, you should immediately see an eye doctor. Whether you are a baby boomer or a twenty-year-old, age does not matter. Age, however, does affect the visual field loss and, consequently, the severity of that loss. For people with any kind of loss of visual field and regardless of their age, an ophthalmologist can conduct specific tests to find the underlying cause of your loss. Those tests will help the eye doctor to determine what surgical procedure to perform. The second primary care doctor, you should visit is the physician who wrote the original prescription for your eye drops or the optometrist who created the eyeglasses you wear today. In addition to diagnosing and treating your eye problems, these professionals can also help you manage other symptoms that arise because of your eye issues, including the need for glasses or contact lenses. That's because they have experience working with you to determine which prescription glasses or contacts are best for your specific needs. That means they can determine which brand, type, and size of lens are best for improving your vision. Find out more about eye care services here. Finally, an optometrist can provide you with one of the most valuable referrals you'll ever receive. If you don't have eye problems but are considering buying a pair of contact lenses or glasses, he or she can refer you to an eye doctor who can give you a referral. He or she will also be able to provide you with the information you need to purchase those expensive items over the Internet, if you want to shop there. And, most optometrists have offices nearby so that when you have a vision test and prescription, you can simply take them with you to the office. Wow, I never knew that an eye doctor could help restore your vision if you're having episodes of vision loss. My colleague talked about how watching movies is making his eyes hurt. I think it would be best that he visit an eye doctor for help in the future.
